The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MoHI) on September 28, 2026, issued a notification regarding an upgrade in the Automotive Testing Infrastructure under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme.
The following has been stated: -
•The Global Automotive Research Centre (GARC), Chennai, is upgrading its testing infrastructure under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme to support electric and advanced vehicle technologies.
•GARC has been allocated ₹221.13 crore for facilities including EV and battery testing, EMI/EMC testing, heavy commercial vehicle testing, ADAS, passive safety and component testing.
•Equipment installation has commenced, including high-speed imaging systems for crash testing and safety analysis.
•The upgrades aim to strengthen India’s indigenous vehicle testing, certification, and homologation capabilities.
